The twelve firstborn were the first sylvari to awaken in the Grove. For several years they were the Pale Tree’s only children, the founders of sylvari society. They shaped the houses and paths beneath the Pale Tree’s boughs, faced the trials of the world. Formed bonds, made discoveries, explored and experienced what they could. Some roamed whilst others stayed put, some found great joy and others, great terror.
Of the twelve, nine are named and known. Trahearne the eldest, first of all sylvari. He was burdened with a Wyld Hunt deemed impossible by many, the cleanse Orr of Zhaitan’s foul corruption. A lonely scholar, opinions of him vary from ‘highly respected’ to ‘laughable and creepy.’ He took up the mantle of Pact Marshal however, and was ultimately successful. Caithe of Night is another; a shadowy thief, skilled with her daggers but less so with her speech. She is part of Destiny’s Edge, an is considered a most magnificent enigma by many of her people. She was once the lover of Faolain, another of the firstborn. Faolain of Dusk, she fell to Nightmare and rose up in its ranks to become the leader of the court, the Grand Duchess. Dagonet there is too, presumably of Dawn. He is a curious and pleasant diplomat of his people, and currently acting as ambassador in Kryta. He is also a philosopher of sorts.
Then there are the Luminaries, the guardians and guides of the grove. Aife of Dawn, a skilled archer and a charismatic speaker of her people. Niamh of Noon, head of the wardens and a powerful warrior. Kahedins of Dusk, a gentle, soothing scholar who oft interprets the dreams of his people. He is also quite the shaper. Finally Malomedies of Night, a cool and collected mentor, stern and yet caring. He is a mathematician and stargazer, and was once captured and tormented by the inquest.
There was also Riannoc. Considered as valiant and wondrous as the sun itself, he was tasked with the Wyld Hunt to defeat Mazdak the Lich. Believing in the powers of good and honour, and love, he fell when his squire fled with his sword. Perhaps he could have lived if he had run, but he chose to stay so that the other would not be pursued. He was the first sylvari to die, and the firstborn felt his loss keenly for he was much loved, and mourned.
Of the final three firstborn little is know. It is possible that one is Soundless, or at least laid down the teachings for them, as it has been stated that a firstborn created their meditations. Truly, though, there is virtually no information on these final three figures of sylvari lore.
